Aultbea is set amongst the most beautiful scenery on the North West coast of Scotland, 70 miles from the Highland City of Inverness. The area offers a wide variety of outdoor activities - hillwalking/climbing, birdwatching, fishing, golf, pony trekking, wildlife, marine life. |
There are several sandy beaches nearby at Mellon Udrigle, Slaggan, Gruinard Bay, Cove, Big Sand, Gairloch, Opinan and Red Point, offering safe bathing (on hot days!) with views of mountains to the North. |

The famous Inverewe Garden is 6 miles away. This is a tropical garden with plants and trees from all corners of the world. These tropical plants are able to grow outside due to the Gulf Stream which keeps the temperature mild, even in winter! |
For hillwalkers/climbers there is perhaps the best collection of mountain walks and climbs in Britain. The mountains of Slioch 980m, Beinn Airigh Charr 791m, Beinn Eighe 972m, Benn Alligan 922m, Liatach Range 1054m, An Teallach Range 1062m, and many more are all within easy travelling distance. More level walks are to Shenavall bothy, Scoraig, and Ardessie Falls, all from Dundonnell. The Beinn Eighe nature and mountain trails on Loch Maree are nearby. |

Suggestions for places to visit:
Gairloch - There is an excellent beach, 9 hole golf course, award winning heritage museum covering all aspects of the history of the area from the earliest times to the present day. Marine Life Cruises operate trips from the harbour where you can see dolphins, seals, seabirds, porpoises etc. |

To the north of Aultbea is the small fishing village of Ullapool - approximately 1 hour´s drive. En-route visit the Corrieshalloch Gorge and Leckmelm Gardens. Ullapool is also a small port with ferry links to the Outer Hebrides. There are also boat excursions to the Summer Isles. Further north is the Hydroponicum Garden of the future at Achiltibuie. |

To the south of Aultbea is the village of Torridon; the Applecross Peninsula with views across the sea to the Isle of Skye; Lochcarron and the picturesque village of Plockton with its palm trees and pretty bay (the tv series `Hamish Macbeth´ was filmed here). |
